Traffic videos on mobile
In Estonia, in the city of Tallinn, the authorities in collaboration with AS Signaal have developed a system called EMT SurfPort, using which the users can view the real time traffic on their mobile phones. The images are sent by the traffic monitoring cameras installed on the eleven major traffic intersections which are received by the mobile phones. User can by this way avoid the high traffic zones in real time.
The images that are sent to the mobile phones seem to be a video as the refresh rate is less than 1 second. The agencies are planning to enhance the technology such that older mobile phone model users are able to user the technology as well.
