SMS Short codes related directive by DoT
If is a bad news at least in the short term for all those premium VAS providers in India.
DoT [Department of Telecommunications] has sent a six month notice to all these VAS providers which asks them to port to a 5 digit short-code instead of present 3 or 4 digits short codes.
Very popular VAS providers such as Indiatimes [8888] and Star [7827] who have 5 digit short codes would surely feel the heat as they have invested huge amount in their brand building. Not only the big players, but small players would stand to loose in this arrangement.
